My name is Andrew Moss: I’m a retired teacher, based in mid-Essex, and began fishing with a fly rod and tying flies in 1973 and have contributed articles to “Fly Fishing & Fly Tying” magazine since 2015.
Having fished in a variety of locations across the globe, I now fish on local streams and still waters, in the Yorkshire Dales, Wales and Scotland: what I really enjoy is catching wild brown trout in remote locations.
Using a rod and line to cast a fly is a graceful method of fishing, but the motor skills and technique needed to do so efficiently are easily swamped by bad habits. Time spent practising under guidance will pay dividends when on the water, you shouldn’t practice whilst you’re fishing.
“You can take the man out of the classroom, but you can’t take the classroom out of the man”.
In order to teach fly fishing with ‘qualified confidence’ I joined the Game Angling Instructors’ Association [GAIA], followed the in-house mentoring programme and was subsequently awarded their ‘Single Handed Professional Instructor’s Certificate’ [GAIAC, and the insurance it provides].
I can offer casting tuition, on grass or water, and general instruction for game angling for individuals or organisations and clubs and mentoring for those who wish to follow the path to a GAIA qualification.
