This is a little taster of the sort of trouting I really enjoy: this from May 2023 in the far north west of Scotland. A typical day demands a fair amount of hiking through a variety of terrains, but it’s worth it. 

These trout are gloriously marked and have probably never seen an artificial fly before. 

The takes are real thumps on the line, they are eager to feed. 

It’s somewhere I’m getting to know better.

I use a local guide, Stewart Yates [Assynt Fly Fishing] who knows the place intimately, is a superb angler, great company and whose wife Monica bakes a mean apple & cinnamon cake!
